Get Some More Omega 3 Fats In Your Diet. Your Health Depends On It.

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I’ve been taking Omega 3 Fish Oil Capsules because it seems to me that the evidence is in that our diet is too low in Omega 3 fatty acids and we need more And the evidence also seems clear to me that our health is directly linked to the level of Omega3 fats in our diet.

But a friend of mine told me recently that he would never ever even consider taking supplements. That supplements are unproven, and not mainstream medicine, and that they weren’t something you ought to take. So I thought I’d discuss that.

Because it seems that there is a view that any form of dietary supplementation is unnecessary and just makes money for the people who make the supplements.

And plenty of people also see the taking of dietary supplementation as “alternative” and not recognized by the medical profession. That real people won’t take them.

So lets consider whether there are down to earth recognized medical authorities that recommend the intake of Omega 3 oils and fats and recognize the Benefits Of Omega 3.

No lesser authority than the American Heart Association says:

The AHA says that “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of , or who have, cardiovascular disease.

The AHA tells us on it’s website to eat at least 2 servings of fish a week and that we should eat foods high in Omega 3 fats in general.

And they make quite specific recommendations for those with CHD (coronary heart disease). They should eat at least 1 gram of EPA and DHA per day, and for those who need to lower their triglycerides its suggested that they take from 2 to 4 grams of EPA and DHA as capsules, doctor supervised.

You can’t get any clearer than that. The AHA says on its website that we should increase our intake of Omega 3 fatty acids as food or as Omega 3 supplements.

Of cause you can increase your intake of omega 3 fats through your diet. But that’s far from easy for many people and give you an example of why.

You can get Omega 3 oils in meat. Good old beef and lamb. But but you can’t if you buy grain fed beef and lamb because grass fed beef and lamb is higher in Omega3 but grain fed is not. And ours is grain fed.

So it really isn’t very easy getting enough essential fatty acids into your diet and that’s why so many studies have concluded that our diet substantially deficient in Omega 3 fats.

And if you’re someone who has wondered whether omega 3 dietary supplementation is accepted by the medical profession have a read on the website of the AHA. They’re pretty mainstream. They certainly don’t consider Omega 3 supplementation be something alternative and not acceptable to medicine.
