Your Alkaline Diet And Weight Loss
The alkaline diet is a subject of curiosity to many people. Unsurprisingly, the first thing most people want to know about this sort of diet is whether or not it can help them to achieve and maintain a suitable weight. In order to answer this question, let’s first discuss how diets work in general.
How does an acid alkaline diet–or any diet, for that matter–help you to get slimmer? The answer has to do with calories in versus calories out. Virtually any food can cause you to gain weight if you eat too much of it. It doesn’t matter whether we’re discussing greasy hamburgers, or a healthy salad weighed down with avocados and walnut pieces–if you consume more calories than you burn, you are going to gain weight.
Since this is the case, the downside of the alkaline diet is that it doesn’t guarantee weight loss. Some alkalizing foods are quite calorie-dense. I’m thinking particularly of nuts and seeds, avocados, and certain healthy oils. These are all very healthy foods, but if you’re trying to lose fat, you should eat them in strict moderation.
To this point, it may sound as if I’m pretty negative about the alkaline diet for weight loss. Actually, I’m just trying to be realistic. The only way to guarantee that you will lose weight is by counting calories. Any other approach, from the alkaline diet to the low-carb diet, is not certain to cause weight loss. The good news about an alkaline diet, however, is that it stresses fresh fruits and vegetables, foods that are high in fiber and extremely filling, but typically low in calories.
In conclusion, the alkaline diet can be an effective approach for weight loss, but just because a food is alkaline-forming doesn’t mean you can eat as much as you want. In other words, be careful to consume high-fat foods in moderation.
